St. Louis, MO. (June 5, 2023): Schaeffer’s Specialized Lubricants is extremely proud to recognize Larry Ludwig, Chief Chemist and Technical Director received the John A. Bellanti Sr. Memorial Award at the National Lubricating Grease Institute’s (NLGI) annual meeting Monday, June 5, 2023.
The award “acknowledges meritorious service on the NLGI Board, on Technical Committee projects or to the industry.”
“Larry is recognized throughout the industry as a thought leader in formulating lubricants and sharing his knowledge with others,” said Jim Carroll, executive vice president of strategic expansion and product technology for Schaeffer. “He’s made significant contributions to various industry working groups, technical committees and NLGI Education Courses.”
With Schaeffer for 45 years, Ludwig is one of only a few individuals who is a Certified Lubrication Specialist (CLS), certified Oil Maintenance Analyst–Level 1 (OMA), and Certified Metalworking Fluid Specialist (CMFS) as certified by the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE).
Ludwig has given presentations and webinars for leading lubrication associations and fleet councils across the country. He’s an active member of the National Lubricating Grease Institute (NLGI), NLGI’s Food Grade Lubricants Working Group, and he’s the co-vice chairman of NLGI/ELGI Biobased/Biodegradable Lubricants Working Group.
At Schaeffer, Ludwig is responsible for product formulation, product testing and registrations, technical support to the company’s sales reps and customers, and managing additive supplier relationships.
Ludwig is an STLE and has held past technical and local section chairmanships; American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM); Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE); American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME); and NSF International’s Non-Food Compounds Registration Programs Steering Subcommittee.
